Walking Through a Broken Map is a networked collaboration that uses the popular social networking site Multiply to archive what may otherwise be passed-over as unimportant - the mundane day to day images of Filipinos living outside of the Philippines.
One of the largest diasporic communities with some 11 million or 10% of the working population dispersed overseas - the internet and online social-networks has become a valuable tool both in practical and psychological sense; acting as a rhizomatic umbilical cord where the medium is the message is the content & symbolic metaphor. Created by Impermanent Media Projects & Salvage Projects in 2007 it is open to contributions from friends, family, strangers and fellow travellers.
Walking Through a Broken Map celebrates the everyday in its imperfections, charting an evolving psycho-geography by cataloguing and recording links that bind or perhaps have been broken from the journeys taken by a people.
The archived images will be used as postcards for an installation of the same name
collaboration, ongoing
